Supported by authentic saplings bent and lashed together, The Longhouse is the home of the Island Section Chief. It also serves as a meeting space for the Island campers.
Here our oldest campers, ages 15-16, live in a special community. Campers live in teepees circled around fire-pits where the campers and counselors hold evening devotions under the stars.
Here “Jo-Nurse” tends to the cuts and bruises that come along with the rugged Deerfoot Life. Parents, this is where to drop off any medications your son may need on check-in day.
Deerfoot is home to small and largemouth bass, northern pike, pumpkin seeds, and trout just to name a few. Here campers learn how and where to catch all of these. Beginning with a spinning reel, they work their way up to the more challenging art of fly-fishing.

A canoe is probably the most practical way for making your way through water in the Adirondacks. For this reason, we make sure that Deerfooters know how to canoe. Many campers can tell stories of working hard before finally honing their “J-stroke” well enough to paddle to the Point and back as part of earning their Basic award.

There’s nothing like wind-powered travel! Here campers learn how to captain their own boats on Lake Whitaker. Beginning with Sunfish and working up to Catamarans and O’Days campers handle sheets rigging and tillers with expertise… with a little instruction.

Here campers learn to safely and proficiently use basic camping equipment: Matches, axes, saws, tents, and cookware. If you haven’t had a perfectly cooked yellow cake from a Dutch Oven, you’re missing out. Find a Deerfooter and put them to work!

This cabin was the first one built specifically for Deerfoot Lodge. Constructed by Halsey Page for Deerfoot, it was originally a bunkhouse. Now it houses the Handcrafts area, where campers shape clay, work with leather, and shape wood for various rustic-styled projects.

Here campers can learn all about the north woods, the functioning of its ecosystems, what stars and planets are visible from camp, and more. Campers even build their own self-sufficient terrariums.

This building, named for our Founders, “Mom” and “Dad” Kunz, is our largest meeting space. We hold Sunday services here as well as games of floor hockey and Lightning Ball. It is also where all campers and camper parents come to check in on opening day.s.

This area is for campers ages 13-14. The point features log cabins, each of which was built in the parking lot, then floated across the lake and assembled on site by volunteers at Work Weekend. Each cabin is named after a local outdoorsman or historical figure – French Louie, and Cal Wilbur are examples.

The best place to be on a hot, summer day. The waterfont is simple: A sandy beach with a float raft to jump, slide, or dive off of. Be sure to look up from time to time. The waterfront features the a perfect view of the Dug Mountains, looming over the other side of the lake.
This is the camp store, where campers have an account and can purchase anything from sweet treats to soap and camp t-shirts.

On weekends in the summer, this building serves over 260 people at every meal. After-Breakfast Bible Study and singing is also held here. It is a log building, built with long, spruce logs carefully selected and floated over from Indian Island.

This is the Oldest Cabin in camp. Constructed by Halsey Page before Deerfoot even existed, it was first a hunting cabin. In the early years the entire camp slept, ate and lived out of this building. Now it houses our offices and staff storage cubbies.
For ages 9-12, this is where many campers first experience Deerfoot. All cabins are log cabins, and the section features the Waldorf – the only flushing toilets available in camp! Cabins here are named after local wildlife – Mink, Black Bear, Beaver, etc.
The Jack Gill Lean-To is named for one of Deerfoot’s beloved former director’s and is the home of the Point Section Chief. It also serves as a meeting area for Pioneer campers. The building’s large fieldstone chimney was built to incorporate Chief Jack’s personal rock collection. Chief Jack was a geology teacher as well as camp director.
